Ingredients

For the Salted Caramel:

1 cup granulated sugar

6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon sea salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Apple Filling:

4 medium tart apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Pinch of salt

For the Crumble Topping:

1 cup old-fashioned oats

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

Instructions

Make the Salted Caramel:

    - In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the granulated sugar. Stir constantly until the sugar melts and turns a deep amber color, about 5-7 minutes.

      - Carefully whisk in the butter until melted. Then, gradually add the heavy cream while whisking continuously (the mixture will bubble up).

        - Remove from heat and stir in the sea salt and vanilla extract. Let it cool slightly.

          Prepare the Apple Filling:

            - In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Ensure the apples are well coated and set aside.

              Make the Crumble Topping:

                - In a separate bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Mix until well combined.

                  - Add the cubed butter to the oat mixture. Using your fingers or a pastry cutter, mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

                    Assemble the Crumble:

                      - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

                        - In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spread the apple filling evenly across the bottom.

                          - Drizzle half of the cooled salted caramel over the apples.

                            - Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples and caramel.

                              - Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.

                                Final Touch:

                                  - Remove the crumble from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Drizzle the remaining salted caramel on top before serving.

                                    Serve:

                                      - Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired, and enjoy the perfect balance of sweet and salty!
