Ingredients

1 lb (450g) flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

2 cups broccoli florets

1 bell pepper, sliced (any color)

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced

3 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 tablespoon cornstarch

2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided

2 cups cooked rice (white, brown, or jasmine)

1 tablespoon sesame oil

Salt and black pepper to taste

Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Sliced green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prep the Beef: In a medium bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, cornstarch, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Let it marinate for about 15-20 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.

Blanch the Broccoli: Bring a medium pot of salted water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets and cook for about 2 minutes until bright green and just tender. Drain and immediately transfer to an ice water bath to halt cooking. Drain again and set aside.

Stir-Fry the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and let it sear without stirring for about 1-2 minutes until browned. Stir-fry for an additional minute until fully cooked. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.

Cook the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil, then add the minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the bell pepper and stir-fry for about 1-2 minutes until slightly softened.

Combine Everything: Return the beef to the skillet, add the blanched broccoli, remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil. Toss everything together and cook for another 1-2 minutes until heated through. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

Serve: Plate the rice on individual serving dishes and top with the beef and broccoli stir-fry. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired.
