Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/2 cup milk

1 pound breakfast sausage, cooked and crumbled

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Additional shredded cheddar cheese (for topping)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare the Biscuit Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Add the cold cubed butter and mix using a pastry cutter or your hands until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Incorporate Cheese: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Add Milk: Pour in the milk and mix gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Combine Sausage: Fold in the crumbled breakfast sausage until evenly incorporated into the biscuit dough.

Shape the Biscuits: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead a few times to bring it together. Roll the dough out to about 1/2 inch thick. Use a round biscuit cutter (about 2 inches in diameter) to cut out the biscuits. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Egg Wash: Brush the tops of the biscuits with the beaten egg to give them a nice golden color as they bake.

Add Extra Cheese: Sprinkle extra shredded cheddar cheese on top of each biscuit for that extra cheesy goodness.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes, or until the biscuits are puffed and golden brown.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve warm as a delicious appetizer or snack!
