One of the first decisions to make when preparing Garlic Lemon Broccoli Pasta is which type of pasta to use. Spaghetti and fettuccine are two popular choices, each bringing a unique texture and presentation to the dish. Spaghetti, with its long, thin strands, allows for a light and delicate sauce coating, making it an excellent option for those who prefer a more traditional pasta experience. On the other hand, fettuccine, with its flat, wide ribbons, offers a heartier bite and holds sauces beautifully, creating a more substantial feel.

Ingredients

8 oz spaghetti or fettuccine pasta

2 cups fresh broccoli florets

4 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

Zest and juice of 1 large lemon

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and pepper, to taste

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus more for serving)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Add the broccoli florets to the pot during the last 2 minutes of cooking. Drain the pasta and broccoli, reserving about 1 cup of pasta water.

Sauté Garlic: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until fragrant but not browned.

Combine Ingredients: Add the lemon zest and juice along with red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Stir well to combine.

Mix Pasta and Broccoli: Add the drained pasta and broccoli to the skillet, tossing to combine. If the mixture seems dry, gradually add reserved pasta water until you achieve your desired consistency.

Season: Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until well mixed.

Garnish and Serve: Serve immediately, garnishing with chopped fresh parsley and additional Parmesan cheese if desired.
