Ingredients

2 cans (15 oz each) chickpeas, drained and rinsed

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

6 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/4 cup vegetable broth (or chicken broth for non-vegetarian option)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Optional: a pinch of red pepper flakes for a kick

Instructions

Preparation: Begin by draining and rinsing the canned chickpeas under cold water. This helps remove excess sodium and improves the flavor.

Sauté Garlic: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 2-3 minutes until fragrant and golden, ensuring it doesn’t burn.

Combine Ingredients: Add the rinsed chickpeas to the skillet, along with the smoked paprika, lemon juice, and vegetable broth. Stir everything together well to combine.

Mash the Chickpeas: Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the chickpeas to your desired consistency. If you prefer a smoother mash, you can use an immersion blender or food processor for a creamier texture.

Adjust Seasoning: Taste the mash and season with salt and pepper according to your preferences. If you like a bit of heat, sprinkle in some red pepper flakes.

Serve: Transfer the chickpea mash to a serving dish. Top with freshly chopped parsley for garnish and an extra pat of butter if you desire a richer flavor.

Enjoy: Serve warm as a spread on toast, a filling in wraps, or a side dish paired with grilled vegetables or meat.
