1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon yeast

1 teaspoon sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup warm water (around 110°F/45°C)

3 tablespoons olive oil, divided

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions
 

Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.

    Make the Dough: Add the flour, salt, and 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a rough dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

      First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

        Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

          Prepare the Garlic Topping: In a small skillet over medium heat, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Add the minced garlic, oregano, basil, and optional crushed red pepper flakes. Sauté for about 2 minutes until fragrant, then remove from heat.

            Shape the Breadsticks: After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long stick, about 8 inches in length.

              Coat and Place: Dip each breadstick into the garlic mixture, coating well, then place them on the prepared baking sheet.
