Ingredients

3 medium-sized apples (preferably Fuji, Honeycrisp, or Granny Smith)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional for added warmth)

1 tablespoon of coconut sugar or brown sugar (adjust based on sweetness preference)

Juice of 1 lemon (to prevent browning and enhance flavor)

Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 225°F (110°C). This low temperature will help to dry out the apple slices without burning them.

Prepare the Apples: Wash the apples thoroughly. Core them, then slice them thinly (about 1/8 inch thick) using a mandoline slicer or a sharp knife. For even more uniformity, you can leave the skin on, but it's optional.

Toss with Lemon Juice: Place the apple slices in a large mixing bowl and drizzle with lemon juice. Toss to coat evenly; this step will prevent browning and add a nice zesty flavor.

Mix Spices: In a small bowl, combine the ground cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), coconut sugar, and sea salt. Mix until well combined.

Coat the Apple Slices: Sprinkle the spice mixture over the apple slices. Toss gently to ensure that each slice is coated evenly, taking care not to break them.

Arrange on Baking Sheets: Line two baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Lay the apple slices in a single layer on the sheets, making sure they don’t overlap.

Bake: Place the baking sheets in the oven and bake for about 1.5 to 2 hours. Flip the apple slices halfway through the baking time for even crisping. Keep an eye on them towards the end of baking, as the time will vary based on the thickness of your slices and moisture content of the apples.

Cool and Store: Once the apple chips are golden and crispy, remove them from the oven and let them cool completely on the baking sheets. They will become crunchier as they cool. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
