Ingredients

1 cup (225g) unsalted butter

1 ½ cups (300g) packed brown sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup (175g) chocolate chips (semi-sweet or butterscotch)

½ cup (75g) chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans work great)

Instructions

Brown the Butter: In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Continue cooking, stirring often, until it turns light golden brown and you notice a nutty aroma, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Mix the Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the warm brown butter and brown sugar. Mix until well combined. Allow the mixture to cool a bit more before adding the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined. Be careful not to over-mix. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).

Prepare the Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, allowing some overhang for easy removal later. Lightly grease the parchment with cooking spray or butter.

Bake the Blondies: Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing it out with a spatula. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Cool and Cut: Allow the blondies to cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes. Lift them out using the parchment overhang and transfer to a cutting board. Cut into squares or rectangles.

Serve and Enjoy: These crackly brown butter blondies are best enjoyed warm, slightly underdone for that chewy texture, or at room temperature. Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
