Ingredients

1 lb (450g) ground beef

1/2 lb (225g) ground pork

1 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp Italian seasoning

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup ricotta cheese

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Olive oil for drizzling

Instructions

Prepare the Meatballs: In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined (don’t overmix). Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and set aside.

Cook the Meatballs: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large oven-safe skillet or pan, heat a splash of olive oil over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides, approximately 5-7 minutes. You may have to do this in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan. Once browned, remove them and set aside.

Assemble the Casserole: In the same skillet, pour in the marinara sauce and bring it to a simmer. Return the meatballs to the skillet, nestling them into the sauce evenly.

Layer the Cheeses: Spread dollops of ricotta cheese over the meatballs and sauce. Then, sprinkle shredded mozzarella generously on top of everything.

Bake: Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake uncovered for about 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and drizzle with olive oil before serving.

Enjoy your delicious Classic Meatball Marinara Casserole with garlic bread or a fresh garden salad!
