Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (80/20)

1 large onion, thinly sliced

4 slices Swiss cheese

4 hamburger buns (preferably brioche)

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Fresh arugula (optional, for serving)

Dijon mustard or mayonnaise (optional, for serving)

Instructions

Caramelize the Onions:

In a large skillet over medium-low heat, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter. Once the butter is melted, add in the sliced onions. Cook slowly, stirring occasionally, for about 20-25 minutes, until the onions are soft and caramelized. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper after about 10 minutes. Once done, set aside.

      Prepare the Beef Patties:

In a bowl, combine the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well but be careful not to overwork the meat. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and form into patties.

          Cook the Burgers:

Heat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the beef patties for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip them, and then place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the burgers reach your desired doneness and the cheese is melted.

              Toast the Buns:

In the last few minutes of cooking the burgers, add the hamburger buns, cut side down, to the grill or skillet until they are golden brown.

                  Assemble the Burgers:

On the bottom half of each toasted bun, layer the patty with melted Swiss cheese, followed by a generous portion of caramelized onions. If desired, add fresh arugula and a spread of Dijon mustard or mayonnaise.

                      Finish and Serve:

Top with the other half of the bun, serve immediately, and enjoy your flavorful Caramelized Onion Swiss Burgers!
