Ingredients

1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

1 medium apple (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), cored and thinly sliced

8 ounces Brie cheese (rind removed and cut into thin slices)

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

1 tablespoon honey (optional, for drizzling)

1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional, for added crunch)

Flour (for dusting)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.

Prepare the Apples: In a medium bowl, toss the thinly sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Make sure the apple slices are evenly coated. If you're using nuts, add them to the bowl for an extra crunch.

Prepare the Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to smooth out any folds. You should aim for a rectangular shape. Cut the pastry into a rectangle measuring about 10x14 inches.

Create the Braids: On one long side of the pastry rectangle, make diagonal cuts about 1-inch apart. Stop cutting about 2 inches from the edge. This creates the braiding sections.

Layer the Filling: In the center of the uncut section of the puff pastry, layer the Brie slices followed by the spiced apple mixture. Ensure to leave the edges clear for braiding.

Braid the Pastry: Gently fold the left and right strips over the filling, alternating between sides to create a braid effect. Press the ends to seal and tuck them underneath.

Egg Wash & Bake: Brush the entire braid with the beaten egg. This will give it a beautiful golden brown color once baked. Place the pastry on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden.

Serve: Allow the braid to cool slightly before drizzling with honey, if desired. Slice and serve warm for the best gooey Brie experience!
